The Bible often compares the relationship between God and His people to the relationship between a husband and wife. The prophets of the Old Testament often refer to Israel as a wayward wife who is unfaithful to her loving and patient husband (God). In the New Testament, Jesus is likened to a bridegroom with the Church as His bride.
